R&S Records
R&S Records is an independent record label founded in 1983 in Ghent, Belgium. The name “R&S” reflects the initials of its founders, Renaat Vandepapeliere and Sabine Maes, who created the label as a couple.
According to available accounts, the label was first named Milos Music Belgium and issued only one record under that name before adopting the R&S Records identity. R&S later ceased operations in 2000. It was subsequently relaunched in 2008, marking a return after several years of inactivity.
R&S is associated with electronic music and has released work by artists including Aphex Twin and Ken Ishii, names that reflect its international reach within that field. The label has also operated with a subsidiary imprint, Apollo Records, which relaunched in 2009 alongside the revived R&S operation.
While founded in Belgium, R&S has been described as remaining independent and being managed from London by Vandepapeliere and Maes, with label manager Andy Whittaker. The label name is commonly presented as “R&S Records,” with variations in spacing and symbols appearing in different contexts.
