[PIAS], short for Play It Again Sam, grew from the early-1980s European independent boom into a British-Belgian label with roots in electronic rock and a broad international roster. Founded in 1982 by Kenny Gates and Michel Lambot, it initially worked with acts including Front 242, Meat Beat Manifesto and The Young Gods, artists whose electronic, industrial and rock approaches suited the label's formative identity.

As [PIAS] expanded, its catalogue brought in artists from further across alternative music. The Sound, Soulwax and 2ManyDJ's connected the label to post-punk, electronic music and dance-floor-minded remix culture, while Sigur Rós and Mogwai represented its relationship with atmospheric, experimental and post-rock-oriented work. More recent releases include music by Heartworms, total tommy, Moreish Idols, Ruxley, Disgusting Sisters, Joyeria, Noonzy and Teodor Wolgers.

In September 2024, [PIAS] was acquired by Universal Music Group. The Play It Again Sam name remains central to a label history that began in independent European electronic rock and developed through several strands of alternative music.
