OVO Sound
OVO Sound, short for October's Very Own, is the Toronto label founded in 2009 by rapper Drake, producer Noah “40” Shebib and manager Oliver El-Khatib. Built around Drake’s circle and 40’s production work, it has served as a home for rap, R&B and dancehall-rooted artists connected to the city’s sound.
The roster has included PARTYNEXTDOOR, whose records helped define the label’s after-hours R&B strain, alongside the songwriting and production duo Majid Jordan, singer-songwriter Dvsn, rapper Roy Woods and Jamaican dancehall artist Popcaan. Other signed artists have included ILoveMakonnen, Baka Not Nice, Smiley, Naomi Sharon and Pimmie. Drake has remained central to the label’s identity, while producers including 40, Boi-1da, Nineteen85, Mike Zombie and T-Minus have formed an important part of its in-house creative network.
OVO Sound operated as a Warner Music Group subsidiary until 2022, when it became independent. Its name and visual identity are tied to October’s Very Own, the wider Drake-led brand rooted in Toronto.
