Numero Group
Numero Group is an archival label built around music that slipped past the commercial spotlight the first time around. Founded in 2003 by Rob Sevier, Ken Shipley and Tom Lunt, the Chicago-based operation researches and preserves recordings, documents and other ephemera connected to artists and independent music entrepreneurs whose work originally found limited commercial success.
Known simply as Numero, the label approaches its catalogue through compilations of previously released material, reissues of original albums and carefully assembled album reconstructions. Its releases draw from a wide range of musical styles rather than a single scene or sound, with the common thread being a commitment to overlooked recordings and the histories surrounding them.
Shipley brought prior A&R experience from Rykodisc, itself a label with an eclectic catalogue. In 2013, Numero entered a partnership with Secretly Label Group. The label's work remains rooted in archival digging: returning obscure music to circulation while preserving the context in which it was made.
