Numero Group
The Numero Group is an archival record label known for compiling previously released music, reissuing original albums, and reconstructing albums from disparate sources across a wide range of genres. Working under the name Numero, the label’s central mission has been research-driven: locating obscure recordings and related ephemera, then presenting them in curated releases that restore context to material that often received little commercial attention when it first appeared.
Founded in 2003 by Rob Sevier, Ken Shipley, and Tom Lunt, Numero has built its identity around preservation as much as selection. Its catalog is shaped by an interest in overlooked artists and small-scale musical enterprises, with an emphasis on documenting the circumstances around recordings rather than treating them as isolated tracks. This approach has made compilations and reissues its primary formats, alongside album reconstructions that assemble coherent releases from recordings that were originally scattered, incomplete, or otherwise difficult to access.
The label is based in Chicago. Its output spans multiple musical genres, reflecting a broad archival scope rather than a single stylistic niche. Artists associated with its releases include Westex, Magic Touch, Tide, Endive, Ida, MACHA, The Exploration, and Cathy Hamer, names that align with Numero’s focus on bringing lesser-known work back into circulation through carefully assembled editions.
