Mr Bongo
Mr Bongo grew from a record shop beneath London’s Daddy Kool Reggae Store on Berwick Street into a Brighton-based independent label, film company and publisher. Founded in 1989, it later moved its office to Brighton, while its London and Shibuya shops closed in 2003. A new Brighton shop opened in 2016.
The label specialises in world music alongside art-house and world cinema, and has worked in film publishing and music licensing since 2004. Its contemporary roster includes Hollie Cook, Project Gemini, СОЮЗ, Don Glori, Finn Rees, New Regency Orchestra, Curió Curió and Ella Thompson, reflecting a catalogue that reaches across international sounds and independent pop.
