MOOD Records
Mood Records was a German independent label born in 1977 from the circle around the United Jazz and Rock Ensemble. Founded by Volker Kriegel, Wolfgang Dauner, Albert Mangelsdorff and Ack Van Rooyen, with support from television producer Werner Schretzmeier and Tonstudio Zuckerfabrik, it focused largely on jazz productions at a moment when jazz-rock was finding a new German audience.
The label's first release, Live Im Schützenhaus, became the best-selling German jazz record of its time, with 100,000 copies sold. Mood Records was based in Stuttgart and was also located in Heidelberg for a period. Its catalogue centred on adventurous jazz and jazz-rock, bringing together accomplished players associated with the UJRE orbit and Germany's experimental music culture.
