Merge Records is an independent record label located in Durham, North Carolina, founded by Laura Ballance and Mac McCaughan in 1989. Initially, it was created to release music from their band Superchunk and their friends, but it has grown to feature artists worldwide and has produced records that reached the top of the Billboard music charts.
