Hospital Records

Hospital Records is a British independent label closely associated with the drum and bass project London Elektricity. Founded in 1996 by Tony Colman and Chris Goss, it developed from their work as London Elektricity into a long-running imprint identified with a broad, upbeat strain of UK drum and bass and related dance music.

Based in East London, Hospital Records releases music across the drum and bass spectrum. Its catalogue and artist roster have included figures spanning melodic and dancefloor-oriented styles as well as deeper, more experimental approaches, with names such as High Contrast, Logistics, Nu:Tone, Metrik, S. P. Y, Netsky, Camo & Krooked, and Fred V & Grafix appearing among the label’s best-known associates. More recent and affiliated artists connected with the label include Fred V, Degs, Whiney, Unglued, and others, reflecting an ongoing focus on contemporary drum and bass.

Hospital has also operated a network of related activities from Shoreditch, East London. Alongside its core releases, it runs the publishing company Songs in the Key of Knife and the events brand Hospitality, which extends the label’s identity into live and international event programming. Hospital’s structure has included sublabels and offshoots: M*A*S*H began in 2003, Med School started in 2006 and later operated as an experimental label, and Hospital Classic Symptoms launched in 2008 to reissue parts of the back catalogue and rarer material. Med School Music continued under the Hospital umbrella until the end of 2019.

Across its history, Hospital Records has been described as having a mission to release optimistic music, an ethos that aligns with its long-standing association with London Elektricity and its reputation within UK dance music. The label’s output, combined with its publishing and events arms, has made it a prominent name in drum and bass culture while maintaining its identity as an independent British imprint.
