Flightless
Flightless is an Australian independent record label founded in Melbourne in 2012 by Eric Moore, a former member of King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard. It emerged initially as a vehicle for releasing King Gizzard’s music and recordings by closely connected groups, reflecting the label’s early role as an extension of a local network of artists rather than a broad commercial imprint.
From that starting point, Flightless developed into a home for a wider set of Melbourne-based bands. Among the acts associated with the label were The Murlocs, Tropical Fuck Storm, Stonefield, and Amyl and the Sniffers, a roster that positioned Flightless within a contemporary Australian guitar-band milieu tied to Melbourne’s independent music community. The label’s identity has been closely linked to this scene and to the momentum created by the bands that grew alongside it.
After Moore’s departure from King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, most of the bands connected with Flightless withdrew from the label. Despite this shift, Flightless has continued operating, persisting by working with newer and smaller artists. The label maintains an online presence through its website, flightlessrecords.com.
