Flightless
Flightless began in Melbourne in 2012 as a home for King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard and their close musical circle. Founded by Eric Moore, then a member of King Gizzard, the independent label initially released the band’s music alongside records by associated act The Murlocs.
The label grew around Melbourne’s rock underground, bringing in bands including Tropical Fuck Storm, Stonefield and Amyl and the Sniffers. Its roster reflected the loose connections between local groups rather than a fixed single style, with Flightless serving as a meeting point for artists emerging from the same city and community.
After Moore left King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, most of those bands withdrew from Flightless. The label has persisted, however, working with newer and smaller bands while remaining based in Melbourne.
