Drag City Records
Drag City emerged from Chicago in 1989, founded by Dan Koretzky and Dan Osborn as an independent label with a taste for music that sits outside easy commercial categories. Its catalogue moves between indie rock, noise rock, psychedelic folk, alternative country and experimental work, giving the label a broad but distinct musical identity.
Among the artists associated with Drag City are Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Bill Callahan, Joanna Newsom and Silver Jews. Their work reflects the label’s interest in singular songwriting and adventurous arrangements, whether rooted in folk traditions, ragged guitar music or more exploratory forms. Drag City has remained based in Chicago while releasing records by artists whose music crosses those styles rather than staying confined to one scene.
