Daptone Records
Hard funk, soul, and afrobeat by contemporary musicians are formed by artists and producers previously associated with the now-defunct 1990s funk revival pioneer label, Desco Records. This label is operated by Gabriel Roth (who often uses his alter-ego "Bosco Mann" for studio mixing) and Neal Sugarman. It features artists such as Sharon Jones, The Dap-Kings, Lee Fields, Sugarman 3, Antibalas, The Mighty Imperials, and more.
Most of Daptone's seven-inch singles have a standard blue record label. However, each single is produced in limited quantities of 1000 to 2000 copies, and certain popular titles have had a second press run with a red label after the first edition sold out.
As of February 2019, Mikey Post, responsible for Direct Sales & Distribution at Daptone, mentions that their releases remain continuously "in-print". He states: "We began barcoding our records in 2009, so any release before that didn't include a barcode initially (e.g., Budos I + II). Nevertheless, I'm still using stampers from the original 'Mother' plates, so the dead-wax remains the same from the first press to current stock...There are minor variations in label color over the years (as I print all of our labels on an offset machine with stock paper)."
