Dangerbird Records

Dangerbird Records is an independent label associated with Los Angeles’s Silver Lake music scene, known for working with a small roster while releasing music by artists from around the world. The label has been linked to international success through releases by acts such as Silversun Pickups, Fitz and the Tantrums, Sebadoh, Minus the Bear, and The Frights, reflecting an emphasis on guitar-driven indie and alternative music alongside related contemporary styles.

The label was founded in 2004 by musician Peter Walker and executive Jeff Castelaz. Based in Los Angeles, Dangerbird developed a profile that connected local scene energy with a broader reach, positioning its releases within a recognizable strain of American independent music while remaining open to artists outside its immediate geography.

Dangerbird’s catalog has included artists that illustrate its range within indie rock and adjacent genres. Grandaddy is among the better-known names associated with the label’s orbit, while other artists tied to the label include Hataalii, Mediocre, Hank May, MILLY, and Rustbelt. The label has also been referred to simply as “Dangerbird,” including in its logo.
