Critical Music
Critical Music is a north London independent label run by DJ and producer Kasra Mowlavi, with a drum and bass catalogue that Resident Advisor described as a comprehensive approximation of the innovation, growth and experimentation happening around 170 beats per minute.
Founded in 2002, the British label has built its identity around underground drum and bass while developing newer names alongside established producers. Its releases include music from Enei, Rockwell, Spectrasoul, Calibre and Break, artists whose work reflects the label’s broad approach to the form, from detailed, bass-heavy production to more atmospheric and technical strains of the genre.
Kasra’s role as owner and operator places a working DJ and producer at the centre of the label’s direction. Critical Music has become closely associated with artist development as well as releases from recognised drum and bass figures, maintaining a London base while reaching listeners across the wider international scene.
