Zero 7

Zero 7 first used their name on a 1997 remix of Radiohead’s “Climbing Up the Walls,” beginning a career that moved from studio work into a distinctive strain of downtempo electronic music. The English duo, formed in 1997, consists of Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker.

Both members studied sound engineering and worked during the 1990s at Mickie Most’s RAK Studios in London. There they engineered recordings for artists including Pet Shop Boys, Young Disciples and Robert Plant. Their early work as Zero 7 also included additional programming on Radiohead’s “Meeting in the Aisle,” a B-side to “Karma Police,” while Binns received an additional sampling credit on Kid A. The pair remixed Terry Callier’s “Love Theme From Spartacus” as well as material by Lenny Kravitz, Sneaker Pimps and Lambchop.

Zero 7 released their debut album, Simple Things, in 2001. Its song “Destiny” remained in the top 100 of the UK singles chart. The duo followed it with When It Falls, The Garden and Yeah Ghost, working across downtempo, trip hop, soul and electronic music.
