Timmy Trumpet became the first trumpet player to perform in zero gravity on 25 March 2019, in a project partnership between the European Space Agency and BigCityBeats. The Sydney-born musician, DJ, songwriter and record producer, whose real name is Timothy Jude Smith, has built an international profile by bringing live trumpet performance and jazz elements into electronic dance music.

Born on 9 June 1982, Smith works across house, big room, electro house, Melbourne bounce and pop-oriented dance music under the Timmy Trumpet name. His breakthrough came with “Freaks,” a collaboration with New Zealand rapper Savage. The single was certified gold by the RIAA, six-times platinum by ARIA, and triple platinum by Recorded Music NZ.

His records have been released through labels including Spinnin’ Records, Smash The House, SINPHONY, Power Hour and Mentalo Music. Alongside studio production and songwriting, his live sets are closely associated with trumpet solos played over electronic tracks. As of 2025, Timmy Trumpet ranks at number 6 in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs list.
