Osees is an American rock band formed in San Francisco, California, in 1997 and now based in Los Angeles. The group began as the solo recording project of songwriter and bandleader John Dwyer, then expanded into a full band and continued to evolve through frequent shifts in personnel and naming. Dwyer has remained the constant presence, serving as the band’s leader and primary songwriter as the project moved between incarnations that have included Thee Oh Sees, Oh Sees, and OCS, among other variants.

Over time, Osees developed a reputation for restless reinvention, with lineups changing as the project’s scope widened from early, Dwyer-centered recordings to a more stable ensemble format. The band’s membership history includes a wide range of collaborators, reflecting its long-running, fluid structure. In its current form, Osees operates as a five-piece anchored by Dwyer alongside longtime members Tim Hellman on bass, Dan Rincon on drums, Paul Quattrone on drums, and Tomas Dolas on keyboards.

The group is commonly associated with garage rock and indie rock, and is also linked to lo-fi, noise rock, neo-psychedelic, and psychedelic punk styles. Across its various names and configurations, Osees has remained closely identified with Dwyer’s songwriting and direction, even as the band’s sound and instrumentation have shifted with different collaborators and the addition of a dual-drummer lineup in later years.

Although the band originated in San Francisco, it is now based in Los Angeles, marking a geographic shift that coincided with later phases of its ongoing evolution. Osees continues to be recognized under multiple related names used at different points in its history, a reflection of the project’s long lifespan and its pattern of reconfiguration rather than a single fixed identity.
