Stray Kids
Stray Kids, a K-pop band created by JYP Entertainment via the 2017 reality show of the same name, consists of eight members: Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, Seungmin, and I.N. The group is divided into three units: 3RACHA (production/rap), VOCALRACHA (vocals), and DANCERACHA (dance).
Stray Kids' initial self-produced tracks debuted during the survival show, with their first single "Hellevator" receiving a music video before the show aired. Additional tracks appeared in their pre-debut EP Mixtape in January 2018, which reached #2 on both the Gaon Album Chart and Billboard World Albums Chart.
The group officially debuted on March 25, 2018, with the EP I am NOT and the lead single “District 9”. They subsequently released two more EPs, I am WHO? and I am YOU, in 2018, forming the I am… series. These EPs saw increasing success, each outperforming the last, and the group won eight rookie awards in 2018.
Their second trilogy, Clé, began on their debut anniversary in 2019 with the release of “MIROH,” earning their first music show win shortly after. The trilogy continued with “Side Effects” and concluded with Clé : LEVANTER. In October 2019, former member Woojin left the group for “personal reasons” as stated by JYPE.
In early 2020, Stray Kids released English versions on Step Out of Clé and Japanese versions on SKZ2020, which adapted parts for their updated lineup. They released “Gone Days” and “On Track” as part of the Mixtape Project and recorded music for the anime Kami no Tō -Tower of God-.
Their first full album, GO生, dropped in June 2020 with the title track “神메뉴 (God’s Menu)”, topping the Gaon Chart. The repackage album IN生 followed, with the title track “Back Door” earning two music show wins. "All In," an official Japanese debut, came afterward.
In 2021, Stray Kids competed in Kingdom: Legendary War, achieving first place. The Mixtape Project continued with the digital single “애 (OH),” reaching number one on Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales and marking Hyunjin’s return from hiatus. They released their second full album, NOEASY, in August 2021, achieving significant sales and multiple music show wins. The year closed with the compilation album SKZ2021.
In 2022, Stray Kids gained widespread recognition with the release of their sixth mini album, ODDINARY, and its title track "MANIAC," reaching the top of the Billboard 200 chart. They embarked on their first arena tour, kicking off in Seoul and continuing to Japan and North America. Their fourth Mixtape Project single, “Time Out,” was released on August 1.
On September 6, 2022, they announced their seventh mini album, MAXIDENT, featuring the title track “CASE 143” and sub-unit songs, focusing on themes of love and relationships. It quickly sold over 2 million copies and topped the Billboard chart, making them the only artist to have two albums debut at number one on the chart that year.
Their 2023 album ★★★★★ (5-STAR) broke records with 4.93 million pre-sales, the highest in K-pop history.
