Steve Bug

Steve Bug, born Stefan Brügesch, helped bring minimal house into wider circulation with the 1996 mix-CD series Da Minimal Funk. Working as a DJ and producer, he developed a career that moved from northern Germany's club circuit to Hamburg and later Berlin, while building a parallel role as a label founder.

Brügesch began DJing professionally in 1991 with a weekly residency at Bremen's Club MAXX. A year later he was booked by Hamburg venue Unit, where he met DJ Henry. The two became friends and started producing music together in Henry's studio. Soon afterward, Brügesch received an offer from the O.M.P. studio in Oldenburg and left his job as a hairdresser.

He moved to Hamburg in 1994, organizing a run of parties with DJ Henry at the Front Club while releasing work through Superstition Records. His first record under the Steve Bug name arrived in 1995. By the end of that year he had founded Raw Elements, his first label. The following year's Da Minimal Funk series became closely associated with the minimal-house style.

In 1998, Steve Bug ended activities at Raw Elements and launched Poker Flat and Dessous. He relocated to Berlin in 2000. Not long afterward, he issued his second album, The Other Day, and organized a series of parties at the Berlin club Sternradio. In 2004 he released the mix CD Bugnology and founded Audiomatique Recordings. Alongside his work under the Steve Bug name, he has also used aliases including Superlova, Traffic Signs, Flashy Fragrant and Loop Hotel.
