Shallou

Shallou is the stage name of Joe Boston, a Los Angeles-based singer, producer, and DJ whose work brings ambient house melodies together with soulful vocals, electronic production, and indie-pop sensibilities. His tracks often balance soft, intimate vocal treatments with dance rhythms and atmospheric textures, placing him between the electronic and indie scenes.

He began drawing wider notice with the 2016 singles “Heights” and “Doubt,” both of which received heavy rotation on SiriusXM Chill. “Doubt” was reported to have accumulated 9 million plays. Coverage from outlets including The Fader, Complex, Spin, Indie Shuffle, Hype Machine, and Earmilk focused on the combination of pitched-down vocals, samples, percussion, and melancholy in his productions.

In May 2017, Shallou released his debut EP, All Becomes Okay, through his own label, Sleeptalker. He followed it with the EP Souls in April 2018, also issued through Sleeptalker. During this period, he toured with artists including Petit Biscuit, Roosevelt, and El Ten Eleven.

Shallou signed with Island Records in 2019 and released his debut album, Magical Thinking, in early 2020. Across his releases, he has worked within a melodic electronic approach that connects ambient passages, house-informed rhythms, and vocal-led songwriting.
