Pink Floyd is a British rock band known for pioneering progressive and psychedelic music, creating a unique impact that remains significant today. The name "Pink Floyd" was inspired by two blues musicians admired by founding member Syd Barrett—Pink Anderson and Floyd Council.

The band was established in 1965 in London by Barrett (guitars, vocals), Nick Mason (drums), Roger Waters (bass), and Richard Wright (keyboards). After releasing their debut album, 1967's The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, David Gilmour joined as a second singer-guitarist, largely as a replacement for Barrett, who left in 1968 due to mental health issues. This change led Waters to assume the role of primary lyricist.

Pink Floyd became mainstream with the release of 1973's Dark Side of the Moon, which is one of the best-selling and most influential albums in music history. Their subsequent albums, 1975’s Wish You Were Here and 1977’s Animals, also achieved significant commercial success. However, during the creation of their next album, a rock opera expressing Waters' feelings of frustration and detachment from their audience, internal conflicts arose. These tensions led Waters to take control, even dismissing Wright due to disagreements over touring and his contributions. The resulting album, 1979’s The Wall, became the top-selling double album ever, featuring iconic tracks like the chart-topping “Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 2” and the melodic “Comfortably Numb.”

Following the lukewarm reception of The Final Cut in 1983, Waters decided to leave and sought to dissolve the band. Nevertheless, Gilmour, Mason, and Wright continued under the band's name despite legal challenges from Waters, maintaining Floyd's presence until their hiatus in 1996 after the 1994 The Division Bell tour.

The band reconciled to perform one last time in 2005, playing five songs at the Live 8 concert in Hyde Park. Barrett passed away in 2006 and Wright in 2008, but Pink Floyd's legacy endures through their prolific discography, the solo projects of Gilmour and Waters, re-releases of their music, and the band’s final album, November 2014’s The Endless River, created from Division Bell-era recordings.

In September 2019, the band launched a five-month multimedia tour in Germany. “The Pink Floyd Exhibition: Their Mortal Remains” offers visitors exclusive experiences, including unreleased gig recordings and personal items from band members.
