Philip Glass

An American composer and musician, born on January 31, 1937, in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. He was married to JoAnne Akalaitis from 1965 to 1980. He studied music under the guidance of William Bergsma, Vincent Pershichetti, Darius Milhaud, and Nadia Boulanger. In 1966, he collaborated with Ravi Shankar, significantly influencing his approach to composition. In the autumn of 1968, he established the Philip Glass Ensemble to perform his music.
