Noisia

Noisia was a Dutch electronic music trio from Groningen, known for productions that moved between drum and bass, dubstep, breakbeat, and house. The group consisted of Nik Roos, Martijn van Sonderen, and Thijs de Vlieger, and also worked under a range of alternate names, including NOISIɅ, Noisa, Nosia, Drifter, Hustle Athletics, Frizz, De Huilende Rappers, and Nightwatch.

As Noisia, the trio released music through a variety of prominent electronic and major-label outlets, including Skrillex’s Owsla, deadmau5’s mau5trap, and Jay-Z’s Roc Nation. Their catalog reflects a broad approach to bass-driven electronic music rather than a single format, with releases that sit across multiple club and sound-system traditions. In addition to their own releases, Noisia’s profile grew through collaborations and production work that connected them to artists in both electronic music and adjacent UK rap and pop scenes.

One of their best-known collaborative projects was I Am Legion, a supergroup formed with Foreign Beggars. Under that name, they released a self-titled album on 2 September 2013. The project brought together Noisia’s electronic production with Foreign Beggars’ vocal work, expanding their output beyond instrumental releases and into a more song-oriented framework while remaining rooted in bass music.

Noisia also operated under the pseudonym Nightwatch, a name used for contributions to projects with artists including Alexis Jordan, Hadouken!, Wiley, and Wretch 32. Their work as producers extended to full album involvement: their production on Hadouken!’s album For the Masses was associated with a number 19 placement on the UK Albums Chart. Alongside their releases as Noisia, these credits illustrate the trio’s activity across different corners of contemporary electronic and urban music, from label-driven dance releases to collaborative and commissioned production.
