Nightmares On Wax

Nightmares on Wax is the long-running project of Leeds-born DJ and producer George Herbert Evelyn, who also performs as DJ E.A.S.E. Emerging from the late-1980s electronic music culture around Leeds, the project began as a group with Evelyn and John Halnon, later including Kevin Harper. Harper left before the release of Smokers Delight, after which Nightmares on Wax became primarily Evelyn’s vehicle.

Working across downtempo, trip hop, breakbeat, acid jazz, instrumental hip-hop and techno, Evelyn has built Nightmares on Wax around relaxed rhythms, sample-based production and DJ-minded eclecticism. His recordings have been released through Warp Records, a label closely associated with his career, as well as 20/20 Vision Recordings, Pura Vida Sounds and Crosstown Rebels.

Although Nightmares on Wax is chiefly identified with Evelyn, the project has also taken a broader live form. MC Toz 180 and guitarist Chris Dawkins have joined the performances, bringing vocal and instrumental elements to music rooted in electronic production. Evelyn is based in Ibiza.
