Quentin Dupieux, born in Paris on 14 April 1974, is the French electronic musician, producer, songwriter and filmmaker best known in music as Mr. Oizo. The name is a corruption of the French word oiseau, meaning “bird,” and is pronounced “wazo.” Dupieux uses his legal name for his films and Mr. Oizo for his musical work, keeping two long-running creative careers distinct while often connecting them through music videos and screen projects.

Mr. Oizo is best known for the 1999 single “Flat Beat,” which featured in Levi’s promotional advertising directed by Dupieux. The track reached number one in the United Kingdom. His work moves through electronic music’s harder-edged and more playful corners, including French house, electro, techno, electro house and experimental electronic music. He has released music through F Communications, Ed Banger Records and Brainfeeder, and has collaborated with artists including Skrillex, Charli XCX, Boys Noize, Siriusmo and Roméo Elvis.

As a filmmaker, Dupieux directed numerous features, including Rubber (2010), Wrong (2012), Wrong Cops (2013) and Reality (2014). His early films were produced in the United States, before he began making films in France in 2018. His subsequent work has included Keep an Eye Out! (2018), Deerskin (2019), Mandibles (2020), Incredible but True (2022), Smoking Causes Coughing (2022), Yannick (2023) and Daaaaaalí! (2023), primarily filmed and produced in France.
