Mos Def

Brooklyn-based rapper of Trinidadian descent, Dante "Beze" Terrell Smith, more widely recognized as Mos Def, is also pursuing a career in Hollywood acting.

Born: 11 December 1973 in Brooklyn, New York City, New York, USA.

He initially gained attention as a member of the group Urban Thermo Dynamics alongside his younger brother DCQ and sister Ces. He has collaborated with numerous respected artists across various genres, most notably teaming up with Talib Kweli as the group Black Star.

He adopted the name Yasiin Bey after he passed his former name, Mos Def, to TV commentator Stephen Colbert following his appearance on "The Colbert Report".
