Modeselektor

Modeselektor is a German electronic music duo made up of Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary. Working primarily in electronica and related strains of club and experimental dance music, the pair has also circulated under a range of alternate names, including MDSLKTR, Mode Selector, Mode Selektor, Modelselektor, Modeselector, Modeselektor On A Yoga Mat, Modselektor, and Fundamental Knowledge.

Across their output, Modeselektor has been closely associated with collaboration, both as a duo and through side projects. They have worked with artists from different corners of electronic and alternative music, including Thom Yorke, Otto von Schirach, Siriusmo, Paul St. Hilaire, TTC, Puppetmastaz, and Maxïmo Park. One of the group’s best-known parallel projects is Moderat, a collaborative act formed with the German musician Apparat. Under the Moderat name, Bronsert and Szary have released several albums with Apparat, extending Modeselektor’s work into a distinct catalogue that is separate from their duo releases while still rooted in the same electronic framework. Moderat is frequently treated as its own entity, but it remains a central part of how Modeselektor’s career is understood, linking their production approach to Apparat’s songwriting and album-focused work.

Modeselektor’s discography and public identity also connect to independent electronic labels, including Monkeytown Records, !K7 Records, and Figure. Their work is commonly grouped under genres such as electronica, intelligent dance music, and wonky, reflecting a style that can shift between detailed sound design and more direct rhythmic material.
