“Flowers,” the lead single from Miley Cyrus’s 2023 album Endless Summer Vacation, became the best-selling single of that year, topped the US charts, and earned two Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year. It marked Cyrus’s second US number-one single after “Wrecking Ball,” and arrived after a career that had moved between pop rock, dance-pop, R&B, country, psychedelic music, and rock.

Born Destiny Hope Cyrus on November 23, 1992, Cyrus first became widely known as Miley Stewart, the lead character in Disney Channel’s Hannah Montana, which ran from 2006 to 2011. The role made her a teen idol and produced a large franchise, including two Billboard 200 number-one soundtracks. Outside the series, she released the US number-one pop-rock albums Meet Miley Cyrus in 2007 and Breakout in 2008. Her 2009 EP The Time of Our Lives included “Party in the U.S.A.,” one of the best-selling singles of its era.

Cyrus pursued a more adult dance-pop direction on 2010’s Can’t Be Tamed. Her 2013 album Bangerz brought trap-pop and R&B into her work through singles including “We Can’t Stop” and “Wrecking Ball.” Later releases found her taking other routes: the psychedelic Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz in 2015, the country-rooted Younger Now in 2017, and the rock-oriented Plastic Hearts in 2020. After signing with Columbia Records, she followed Endless Summer Vacation with the visual album Something Beautiful in 2025.

Her screen work has included Bolt, Hannah Montana: The Movie, The Last Song, LOL, and So Undercover. She was the subject of the 2013 documentary Miley: The Movement, led the miniseries Crisis in Six Scenes, coached two seasons of The Voice, and appeared in the Black Mirror episode “Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too.” Cyrus also hosted Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party in 2021 and 2022.

Cyrus has received three Grammy Awards, a Brit Award, five Billboard Music Awards, three MTV Video Music Awards, and eight Guinness World Records. She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was named a Disney Legend. In 2014, she founded the Happy Hippie Foundation, which focuses on the LGBTQ community and youth homelessness.
