Max Martin

Max Martin, born Karl Martin Sandberg on 26 February 1971, is the Swedish songwriter and record producer behind 30 Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles. He has produced or co-produced 28 of them, an all-time record for the chart as of June 2026. With 30 writing credits at number one, he ranks second behind Paul McCartney's 32, having passed John Lennon's total in March 2024.

Martin rose to prominence in the late 1990s through a run of pop hits that included Britney Spears' "...Baby One More Time" in 1998, the Backstreet Boys' "I Want It That Way" in 1999, Celine Dion's "That's the Way It Is" the same year, and NSYNC's "It's Gonna Be Me" in 2000. His writing and production work subsequently extended across several generations of mainstream pop, including Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl" and "Roar," Maroon 5's "One More Night," and Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off," "Blank Space," and "The Fate of Ophelia."

His later credits include Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber's "I Don't Care," Ariana Grande's "Yes, And?," "We Can't Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)," and "Hate That I Made You Love Me," plus The Weeknd's "Blinding Lights" and "Save Your Tears." “Blinding Lights,” released in 2019, is Billboard's best-performing song of all time. Songs written by Martin also formed part of the 2019 jukebox musical & Juliet.

Martin has received the ASCAP Songwriter of the Year award a record 11 times and has won five Grammy Awards, including Producer of the Year. He has also received nominations for an Academy Award and two Golden Globe Awards. In 2013, The Hollywood Reporter estimated sales of singles associated with his work at more than 135 million copies.
