Malaa emerged from the French electronic dance music circuit in 2015 behind a balaclava and a deliberately concealed identity. The producer and DJ's public image has remained tied to that anonymity, with appearances as a masked figure rather than a named performer. Wikipedia describes Malaa's identity as unknown, though participation in the French DJ collective Pardon My French has linked the project to France.

The breakthrough came with “Notorious,” the second release on Tchami's Confession label. Malaa went on to issue a run of singles and EPs through Confession during 2016 and 2017, including “Prophecy,” while developing a sound associated with house music's bass-heavy, club-focused edges. The project has also remixed work by other electronic artists, including Skrillex and Jack Ü's “Mind.”

Malaa is part of Pardon My French alongside DJ Snake, Mercer and Tchami. The collective toured North America during 2016 and early 2017. In 2018, Tchami and Malaa launched the No Redemption Tour in the United States, supported by an EP of the same name. Alongside Confession, Malaa's releases have appeared through outlets including Malaa Music, Toolroom Records and UKF.
