Madlib
Otis Jackson Jr., known as Madlib, has been a key producer in the underground hip hop scene since the early 2000s. He is a major figure at Stones Throw Records, with his production style often being very soulful and jazzy.
Madlib is also a DJ, emcee, multi-instrumentalist, jazzman, and famous crate digger. His stage name stands for “Mind Altering Demented Lessons in Beats.”
He gained recognition as the producer for the group Lootpack and is well-known for his notable collaborative albums such as *Madvillainy*, *Liberation*, and *Piñata*.
Madlib has also released a number of solo projects, most famously under the alias Quasimoto, his pitch-shifted rapping alter ego, which made its debut on Peanut Butter Wolf’s EP *Styles, Crews, Flows, Beats*.
He also produces music for his instrumental group Yesterdays New Quintet, a jazz-based, hip-hop and electronic-influenced "quintet" that is actually composed of numerous fictitious characters as well as Madlib himself, using his real name, Otis Jackson Jr.
