
Mac DeMarco
Mac DeMarco, born Vernor Winfield McBriare Smith IV on April 30, 1990, is a Canadian singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer. Before releasing music under his better-known name, he worked as Makeout Videotape, issuing albums through Bandcamp between 2009 and 2010. After moving from Vancouver to Montreal in 2011, he began working as a solo artist.
DeMarco’s commercial debut arrived in early 2012, when he signed with Captured Tracks and released the mini-album Rock and Roll Night Club on vinyl. The release had previously appeared through Green Burrito Records as a limited cassette edition of 100 copies. Later that year he released his first full-length studio album, 2, and emerged in the indie music scene. His 2014 album Salad Days was followed by the 2015 mini-album Another One.
His subsequent studio albums include This Old Dog (2017), Here Comes the Cowboy (2019), Five Easy Hot Dogs (2023) and Guitar (2025). In 2023, he also released the compilation album One Wayne G. DeMarco established his own imprint, Mac’s Record Label, in 2018.
DeMarco’s music has been described as blue wave and slacker rock. He has also called his own style “jizz jazz.”
