London Grammar

London Grammar formed in Nottingham in 2009 and built a slow-burning, atmospheric strain of indie pop around Hannah Reid’s vocals, Dan Rothman’s guitar work and Dominic “Dot” Major’s multi-instrumental contributions. The trio’s early material drew together electronic production, spare arrangements and alternative rock textures, giving songs such as “Hey Now” a spacious, nocturnal feel.

The band introduced itself with the 2013 EP Metal & Dust, released through Metal & Dust Recordings. Later that year, London Grammar released its debut album, If You Wait. The record reached No. 2 on the UK Albums Chart and received Double Platinum certification from the British Phonographic Industry. It included the group’s early breakthrough period, while their collaboration with Disclosure, “Help Me Lose My Mind,” also brought their voice into the orbit of UK electronic music.

London Grammar followed with Truth Is a Beautiful Thing in 2017. The album, which included “Rooting for You” and “Big Picture,” reached No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart. Their third studio album, Californian Soil, arrived in 2021 and also topped the UK Albums Chart, with “Baby It’s You” and “Lose Your Head” among its singles.

Across these releases, Reid, Rothman and Major have remained the band’s core lineup. Their music moves between indie pop, dream pop and electronica, pairing intimate songwriting with the scale of polished pop production.
