King Princess
Mikaela Straus (born December 19, 1998), better known by her stage name King Princess, is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer, recognized for tracks like “1950” and “Talia.” In an MTV News interview, Straus revealed she chose her stage name to reflect the “complexity of [her] gender.” Raised in Brooklyn, NY, she grew up in a musical family and quickly learned guitar, piano, and songwriting.
At 11, a record label offered Straus a lead singing role in an animated series, which she declined, feeling the timing and circumstances weren't right. She later attended the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music but left after a year to pursue music.
Her breakout song, “1950,” was a tribute to her girlfriend at the time and the LGBTQ community, drawing inspiration from her favorite book, Patricia Highsmith’s The Price of Salt.
