Jojo Effect

Jojo Effect is a German electro swing and nu jazz project founded in November 2005 by producers and multi-instrumentalists Jaycay and Maxim Illion. The group’s early lineup also included two vocalists, Anne Schnell and Brenda Boykin, bringing a front-person dynamic to music built from production, live instrumentation, and jazz-oriented singing.

Jaycay is known for work connected with projects including Color Blind, Expo’s Jazz & Joy, and Makoma, while Maxim Illion is associated with Club des Belugas. Within Jojo Effect, their background in production and multi-instrumental performance supports a sound that draws on lounge traditions while leaning into jazz phrasing and dancefloor-ready arrangements often linked with electro swing and nu jazz.
