Jamie xx
Jamie xx, born James Thomas Smith on 28 October 1988, is an English musician, DJ, record producer and remixer whose work moves between club-focused electronic music and his role in the indie pop group the xx. He has been described as a driving force behind the xx, contributing to the band’s commercial and critical success.
Alongside his work with the xx, Smith has built a solo career as Jamie xx, working across house, UK garage, future garage, dubstep and related electronic styles. His 2011 release We’re New Here, made with Gil Scott-Heron, reworked Scott-Heron’s 2010 comeback album I’m New Here.
His solo album In Colour brought major award recognition: it was nominated for the Mercury Prize in 2015 and for Best Dance/Electronic Album at the 2016 Grammy Awards. Based in London, Jamie xx remains active as both a solo producer and performer with the xx.
