James Bay
James Michael Bay is an English singer-songwriter and guitarist whose 2014 single “Hold Back the River” became a platinum-certified breakthrough. Born on 4 September 1990 and raised in Hitchin, England, Bay emerged with a guitar-led sound that moves between folk, indie songwriting, pop and alternative rock.
Bay’s debut studio album, Chaos and the Calm, arrived in 2015 and reached number one in the UK and number 15 in the United States. The record followed the success of “Hold Back the River” and established him as a major British solo artist. In February 2015, he received the Brit Awards Critics’ Choice award, then won Best British Male Solo Artist at the 2016 Brit Awards.
His early run also brought three nominations at the 2016 Grammy Awards: Best New Artist, Best Rock Album and Best Rock Song. Bay released his second studio album, Electric Light, in May 2018.
