Imagine Dragons
One of the defining artists of the 2010s and arguably the most notable band of the decade, Imagine Dragons is an American alt-rock band originating from Las Vegas, led by Dan Reynolds. While the band formed in 2008, it initially had a different lineup than most people know today. Before their debut album, Night Visions, was released in 2012, the band put out six EPs over four years, constantly evolving their sound and lineup from folk to the powerful anthems they're now known for.
The band's lineup was set just before the release of Night Visions, with Daniel Platzman on drums, Wayne Sermon on guitar, and Ben McKee on bass. Their breakthrough single, “Radioactive,” played a pivotal role in putting Las Vegas on the musical map, following after The Killers. The song achieved international success, breaking the record for the most consecutive weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 with 87 weeks.
The band released their second album, Smoke + Mirrors, in 2015, which marked a departure from their debut, emphasizing their rock roots and exploring internal struggles as later described by Reynolds in relation to his battle with severe depression.
Following a self-imposed hiatus in 2016, the band launched their third album, Evolve, during Super Bowl LI. True to its title, Evolve was viewed as another transformation of the band's sound, featuring a greater focus on Pop and EDM. Just a year later, they released their fourth album, Origins, considered a companion album to Evolve.
Another hiatus—their longest to date—took place before they released the first two singles from their fifth album: Mercury.
