Grimes

Grimes, the stage name of Claire Elise Boucher, is a Canadian musician, singer, songwriter and record producer whose work draws on science fiction, feminism and fantasy. Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, on March 17, 1988, she began releasing music independently after moving to Montreal in 2006. Her recordings move between electronic and pop forms, often pairing layered production with high, ethereal vocals and a strong melodic sense.

In 2010, Grimes released her first two albums, Geidi Primes and Halfaxa, through Arbutus Records. A split release with d'Eon, Darkbloom, followed in 2011. She then signed with 4AD and reached a wider audience with her 2012 album Visions, which she produced entirely using GarageBand. The record earned the Juno Award for Electronic Album of the Year and produced the singles “Genesis” and “Oblivion.”

Her fourth studio album, Art Angels, arrived in 2015 and was named the year's best album by several publications. Grimes released her fifth studio album, Miss Anthropocene, in 2020. Alongside her recorded work, she voiced a role in the 2020 action role-playing game Cyberpunk 2077 and served as a judge on the music competition game show Alter Ego.
