Fontaines D.C.
Fontaines D.C. broke through with their 2019 debut, Dogrel, a record that drew widespread critical acclaim and made the Dublin group one of the most visible names in the contemporary British and Irish post-punk wave. Rough Trade named it Album of the Year on its website, BBC Radio 6 Music presenters voted it their Album of the Year, and it received nominations for the Mercury Prize and the Choice Music Prize.
Formed in Dublin in 2014 at BIMM Dublin, the band is made up of vocalist Grian Chatten, guitarists Conor Curley and Carlos O'Connell, bassist Conor “Deego” Deegan III, and drummer Tom Coll. They signed to Partisan Records in 2018. Their music has been associated with post-punk and indie rock, alongside gothic rock and Irish rock traditions.
The follow-up, A Hero's Death, arrived in 2020 and was nominated for Best Rock Album at the 2021 Grammy Awards. Fontaines D.C.'s third album, Skinty Fia, was released in 2022 and became their first number-one album in both Ireland and the United Kingdom. The album also contributed to the band winning the Brit Award for International Group.
In 2024, the group released Romance. Its first-week sales were more than double those of its predecessor, while the album earned two Grammy nominations and another Mercury Prize nomination. “Starburster,” the record's lead single, became Fontaines D.C.'s first song to chart in the UK.
