Dopplereffekt
As is typical in the Motor City electro scene, identities remain a mystery, but the focus on precise drum programming and effects is hardly more than a year or two separated from the classic electric-funk era of 1982. Dopplereffekt made their debut in 1995 with a mini-LP for Detroit's Dataphysix label, followed by two EPs for the label in 1997: Infophysix and Sterilization. The numerous German references indicate the group's interest in the classic Kraftwerk sound. After "Sterilization" was featured on several mix albums, DJ Hell reached out to Dopplereffekt and released the Gesamtkunstwerk compilation via his international Deejay Gigolo label in 1999. The alias Japanese Telecom surfaced in late 1999 with the release of the Rising Sun mini-LP through the formerly Ann Arbor-based Intuit-Solar Records. ~ John Bush
