Demi Lovato rose to prominence as Mitchie Torres in Disney Channel’s 2008 musical film Camp Rock, a role they reprised in Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam two years later. The first film also introduced “This Is Me,” Lovato’s debut single with Joe Jonas, which reached number nine on the US Billboard Hot 100. Born Demetria Devonne Lovato on August 20, 1992, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Lovato is an American singer, songwriter, and actress who uses they/them and she/her pronouns.

Before their Disney breakthrough, Lovato appeared on the children’s series Barney & Friends from 2002 to 2004 and later starred in Disney Channel’s As the Bell Rings. They led the sitcom Sonny with a Chance from 2009 to 2011. Signed to Hollywood Records in 2008, Lovato released the pop-rock debut Don’t Forget that year; it entered the Billboard 200 at number two. Its 2009 follow-up, Here We Go Again, debuted at number one in the US.

Lovato moved further into pop and R&B with Unbroken in 2011 and Demi in 2013. Those albums produced the US top-ten singles “Skyscraper” and “Heart Attack.” Confident, released in 2015, incorporated soul influences and received a Grammy Award nomination. The 2017 album Tell Me You Love Me included “Sorry Not Sorry,” which reached number six in the US. Following a hiatus, Lovato released Dancing with the Devil... the Art of Starting Over in 2021 and the rock-influenced Holy Fvck in 2022, which peaked at numbers two and seven in the US. Their ninth album, It’s Not That Deep, arrived in 2025 and debuted at number nine.

Alongside recording, Lovato served as a judge on The X Factor in 2012 and 2013, appeared on Glee, Will & Grace, and hosted both The Demi Lovato Show and Unidentified with Demi Lovato in 2021. Their film work includes Princess Protection Program, Smurfs: The Lost Village, Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, and the drama Tow. Lovato co-directed the 2024 documentary Child Star.

Lovato has sold more than 30 million records worldwide and has received an MTV Video Music Award, fourteen Teen Choice Awards, five People’s Choice Awards, and a Guinness World Record. They were named to the Time 100 list in 2017. In 2015, Lovato co-founded Safehouse Records with Nick Jonas. Their memoir Staying Strong: 365 Days a Year and several documentaries have addressed their experiences with an eating disorder, substance abuse, and self-harm.
