Death Grips is an experimental group from Sacramento, CA, formed in 2010, blending various genres. Consisting of Stefan "MC Ride" Burnett on vocals and Zach Hill and Andy Morin on production, their music and live performances are unique. They released their debut mixtape, Exmilitary, on April 25, 2011, featuring their hit song, "Guillotine." In early 2012, they signed with Epic Records and released their first studio album, The Money Store. That same year, they teased a second album via an ARG in August, but Epic delayed its release. Ignoring Epic's wishes, they leaked No Love Deep Web themselves, leading to their departure from the label. They founded their own label, Third Worlds, in 2013 and surprise-released Government Plates on November 13. The first half of The Powers That B came out on June 8, 2014. On July 2nd, 2014, they announced their disbandment via a Facebook note but assured fans that the second half of The Powers That B would be released. It leaked as Jenny Death on March 19, 2015, with the full album officially released on March 31. On October 21, 2015, they hinted at creating more music and released Bottomless Pit in 2016. Their latest album, Year of the Snitch, came out in 2018.

The band's music has been characterized as punk rock, hip-hop, noise, industrial, and electronic. Their sound ranges from minimalistic and heavy (as heard in "No Love") to rapping on dark topics over distorted samples (like in "I’ve Seen Footage"). They also released two fully instrumental albums, Fashion Week and Interview 2016, featuring aggressive electronic beats and some guitar work.

Frontman Stefan Burnett writes violent and cryptic lyrics inspired by a personal and external struggle, with themes such as individualism, paranoia, mental health, drug use, occultism, and the degenerative state of modern society.
