DaBaby
Jonathan Lyndale Kirk (b. December 22, 1991), widely known by his stage name DaBaby (formerly Baby Jesus), is a rapper originating from Charlotte, North Carolina.
His 2018 tracks “Next Song” and “Blank Blank” received endorsements from Boosie Badazz and Yo Gotti, but his real rise began with the release of the music video for his viral hit “Walker Texas Ranger” at the start of 2019.
In November 2018, DaBaby shot and killed a man who attempted to rob him in a Walmart, which significantly increased his notoriety following widespread news coverage of the event. The murder charge was later dismissed.
On March 1, 2019, DaBaby released his major-label debut studio album, Baby on Baby, after signing with Interscope Records. It includes collaborations with artists such as Offset from Migos, Rich Homie Quan, Stunna 4 Vegas, and Rich the Kid.
On September 27, 2019, he released his second studio album, KIRK, featuring collaborations with Kevin Gates, Chance the Rapper, Gucci Mane, YK Osiris, Nicki Minaj, Lil Baby, Moneybagg Yo, Stunna 4 Vegas, and Migos. The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200, with 145,000 album-equivalent units in its first week.
On April 17, 2020, he released his third studio album BLAME IT ON BABY, which includes collaborations with Quavo from Migos, Future, jetsonmade, Roddy Ricch, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, London on da Track, Ashanti, and Megan Thee Stallion.
In addition to his own projects, he has been featured on tracks by numerous high-profile artists, including Dreamville, J. Cole and Lute, Megan Thee Stallion, Chance the Rapper, Camila Cabello, and Post Malone, and has also collaborated on remixes of popular songs with Lizzo, YG, Lil Nas X, Future, and Dua Lipa.
DaBaby also operates his own record label, Billion Dollar Baby Entertainment, which currently includes artists like Stunna 4 Vegas, one of DaBaby’s regular collaborators; DJ K.i.D., DaBaby’s tour DJ and the producer for much of BLAME IT ON BABY; and up-and-coming North Carolina artists Rich Dunk and 704chop.
In November 2020, DaBaby released My Brother’s Keeper (Long Live G) following the suicide of his older brother Glenn Johnson. The EP features artists Polo G, NoCap, Toosii, and Meek Mill.
