Chase & Status
Chase & Status are the London drum and bass duo of Saul Milton, known as Chase, and Will Kennard, known as Status. Formed in 2003 after the pair met while at university in Manchester, they have worked across drum and bass, jungle, dubstep, grime, hip hop and club music while maintaining a profile in the UK singles and albums charts.
The duo have released seven studio albums and run the independent label MTA Records. Their collaborators include Plan B, CeeLo Green, Rihanna, Example, Tinie Tempah and Stormzy. In live performance, they have been joined by drummer Andy Gangadeen. MC Rage was formerly part of the group’s live lineup, leaving in July 2021 to focus on solo work.
Chase & Status’ recent commercial run included 2 Ruff, Vol. 1, their second consecutive album to reach the UK top four. Four singles from the record were in the UK top 40 at the same time, something a UK band had not achieved since 2010. Its lead single, “Baddadan”, reached the top four of the UK singles chart. In 2024, “Backbone”, their collaboration with Stormzy, became a UK number one single.
In 2023–24, Chase & Status received their first Brit Award, for Producer of the Year. Kennard also founded East London Arts and Music, or ELAM, in 2014. In 2025, he was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire for services to music and creative arts education.
