Charlie Puth

Soft PopPop

Charlie Puth is an American singer-songwriter who began his career by creating and covering songs on YouTube. He gained significant recognition when he was featured on the Furious 7 song “See You Again,” which he wrote in memory of a friend who died in a similar accident. The track reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, maintaining that position for twelve weeks, tying with Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” as the longest-running rap number one. Additionally, the music video became the most viewed on YouTube briefly when it surpassed PSY’s “Gangnam Style” in July 2017.

His initial project, The Otto Tunes, came out in 2010, the title being a clever play on his middle name, Otto, and autotune. His follow-up release, Ego, was also self-produced and released in October 2013.

His major-label debut Nine Track Mind was released on January 29, 2016, with the lead single “Marvin Gaye” featuring Meghan Trainor topping the UK charts and reaching #21 in the US. The subsequent single “One Call Away” performed even better, peaking at #12 in the US and proving Puth's status as more than a two-hit wonder. A deluxe version of the album was released in November 2016.

In the following year, he released “Attention” and eventually Voicenotes, his second studio album.

After Voicenotes, Charlie took a break from releasing albums to write for other artists, feature on various tracks, and share new song snippets on TikTok. In 2022, he announced his self-titled third album, his first full-length work in years, and two days later released its lead single, “Light Switch.” Additional singles “That’s Hilarious” and “Left and Right” followed, the latter being a collaboration with BTS’s Jung Kook. CHARLIE was released on October 7, 2022.

Charlie Puth has perfect pitch, the ability to recognize a note by ear, which enabled him to substitute for a church organist and play all the service songs from memory.
