Caroline Polachek
Caroline Polachek first reached a wide audience with Chairlift’s sleeper hit “Bruises,” a late-2000s Brooklyn indie-pop fixture. Raised in Connecticut, she cofounded the band while studying at the University of Colorado Boulder, serving as a vocalist and helping establish the duo before Chairlift disbanded in 2017.
Her solo work began in 2014 with Arcadia, released under the name Ramona Lisa. She followed it with the 2017 instrumental project Drawing the Target Around the Arrow as CEP. After Chairlift’s breakup, Polachek began releasing music under her own name. Her 2019 album Pang drew critical acclaim for its avant-pop approach, while its single “So Hot You’re Hurting My Feelings” gained viral attention.
In 2023, she released Desire, I Want To Turn Into You, her first album to enter charts in multiple territories. The record received a nomination for Best Engineered Album at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards. Alongside her own recordings, Polachek has collaborated with Blood Orange, Fischerspooner, Charli XCX, Oneohtrix Point Never and Flume. She also wrote material for Beyoncé, including “No Angel.”
