Calibre

Dominick Martin, known professionally as Calibre, is a Northern Irish drum and bass producer and DJ from Belfast whose work is closely associated with the development of liquid funk. He is widely regarded for a production approach that helped define the smoother, more melodic end of drum and bass, and the term “liquid funk” was partly named in reference to his distinct style. Alongside drum and bass, his output has also been connected with jungle, breakbeat, and related forms of electronic music.

Calibre has primarily released his music through his own imprint, Signature Records, which has served as the main home for his recordings. While Signature has been central to his catalogue, he has also issued material through established drum and bass labels including Hospital Records, V Recordings, Creative Source, and Soul:R. His work is typically discussed within the context of liquid funk, but it also reflects a broader interest in rhythm-driven electronic production, with elements that have been described in relation to musique concrète and other experimental approaches.
