Broods
Broods is a musical duo from Nelson, New Zealand, consisting of Georgia Nott (b. 7 July 1994) on lead vocals and her older brother Caleb Nott (b. 1 July 1992) as a multi-instrumentalist handling production and backing vocals. They released the track "Bridges," reaching No. 8 on the New Zealand single chart, prior to signing with Capitol and Polydor Records.
Their debut EP, Broods, was released on 30 January 2014, followed by their full-length album, Evergreen, on 22 August 2014. Their later albums, Conscious and Don’t Feed the Pop Monster, came out on 24 June 2016 and 1 February 2019, respectively.
Caleb and Georgia have been performing together since childhood, growing up in a musical family with three other siblings. They often accompanied their parents to weddings and church performances as part of an ABBA tribute band.
Broods was formed in Auckland in early 2013, after both dropped out of university to focus on the project. They started collaborating with music producer Joel Little, whom they met when he was a judge at the 2011 Smokefreerockquest. Previously members of the indie rock band, The Peasants, they won the music competition in 2011. Their manager proposed the name Broods, which the band liked for its dual meaning, relating to family and a sense of brooding in their music.
