Boris

Formed in Tokyo in 1992, Boris have built a vast body of work from sludge metal, drone, noise, psychedelia, and minimalism. The band’s recordings move between dense amplified riffs, long-form drone, abrasive noise, and more atmospheric or melodic passages, often shifting approach from release to release.

Boris is made up of drummer Atsuo, guitarist and bassist Takeshi, and guitarist and keyboardist Wata. All three members contribute lead vocals, giving the group a flexible vocal presence alongside its instrumental range. Nagata was an earlier drummer in the band’s history.

Since forming, Boris have released more than 20 studio albums, alongside live albums, compilations, EPs, singles, and collaborative records. Their music has appeared through labels around the world, including Relapse Records, Sacred Bones Records, Third Man Records, 4AD, and Fangsanalsatan. Rather than remaining within a single metal tradition, the group’s catalogue draws together heavy rock, experimental noise, ambient space, and psychedelic texture.
