Bonobo
Originating from Brighton, Bonobo has been steadily releasing his unique blend of downtempo/trip-hop inspired music since 2000, establishing himself in the electronic and DJ scene. Over an almost 20-year career, his success has grown significantly, collaborating with artists like Erykah Badu, Andreya Triana, and Chet Faker, and earning GRAMMY nominations.
He initially signed with Tru Thoughts to release his debut album Animal Magic, before moving to Ninja Tune, where he became one of the label's key artists.
His subsequent album in 2003, Dial ’M' For Monkey, advanced his downtempo style with more electronic elements, while 2006’s Days To Come marked Bonobo's exploration into live instrumentation, incorporating strings, saxophones, and vocals from Bajka and Fink.
Considered one of Bonobo’s most popular and acclaimed works, 2010’s Black Sands blended his signature chillout electronica with dynamic, modern, jazzy compositions, creating a set of cinematic yet club-friendly tracks. Bonobo’s work with singer/songwriter Andreya Triana led to him producing her debut album Lost Where I Belong, contributing to her success.
Securing a collaboration with Erykah Badu, The North Borders reached the top 30s on the UK album charts, followed by a world tour filled with sold-out shows, playing festivals like Coachella and Glastonbury, and resulting in a live album. Demonstrating his DJ prowess, Bonobo released his 2013 LateNightTales mix and subsequently started the “international events series” Outlier Live.
His extensive touring from 2013 onwards inspired his sixth album Migration. Featuring contributions from Nick Murphy FKA Chet Faker, Rhye, and Nicole Miglis of Hundred Waters, Migration represents a natural progression from The North Borders, focusing on themes of internationality and transition.
